Just does what it says on the tin.... the only choice for those who don't want a Smartphone
OK, I'm not one to write a review normally - but having used this for 6 months now, all I can say is that it exceeds my expectations.Seeing no review for this device - I felt the need to redress the balance.
I'm a seasoned PDA user, having gone through the Psion Organiser II, Psion 3a, Palm Pilot, Palm III, Palm Vx, Compaq iPAQ, HP4700x, and now this.
This unit is good to hold, with excellent touch screen, good handwriting recognition, and all the applications you could want.
The only concession I have is to load Pocket Informant - that uprates the Calendar application - this was standard on the 4700x, so I missed it when changing over. I really liked the 4700x, but the volatile memory was a let down, and that fabulous hi-res screen just ate battery capacity, I tried the Windows Mobile 5 upgrade but that was poor - hence the move to this device.
Non-volatile memory, good battery life, a screen that's fine for what the device does, and a fast processor work well together in this device. The bluetooth and Wi-fi connections make this a really useful addition if you need powerful connectivity without having to lug even a small laptop about.
I use a standard Nokia 6310i, an HP thumb keyboard, a bluetooth fold up keyboard and a matchbox GPS unit - I can do my e-mail, SMS and write reports - in fact most of what I can do on my laptop. I now rarely take the laptop unless I'm away for more than 2 nights. This unit also uses strong encryption under fingerprint protection. For those that think this is a gimmick - it just works, not difficult to use but for most individuals outside the security agencies - impossible to crack. Great if you store bank details or sensitive data (in my case customer and sales data.
Personally, I like to just use a phone as a phone. I have used an SE M600i and a Nokia N95 for a few months to try and though the new smartphone devices are good - I feel they are quite necessarily compromised.
So, if you want a stand alone PDA - this is the one.
